PITTSBURGH – More engineering jobs are coming to Pittsburgh, as the city’s “Robotics Row” continues to grow.

Honeywell, a North Carolina-based company, is building a robotics center on Smallman Street in the Strip District – joining Uber’s advanced technologies lab and Argo AI in the neighborhood.

It is opening the tech center focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and advanced robotics for warehouses and distribution centers dealing with an ever-growing demand from e-commerce.

Honeywell is also tapping into local talent and partnering with CMU’s national robotics engineering center to help develop some of the technology.

TRENDING NOW:

Students at Carnegie Mellon are thrilled about the news.

“Considering our robotics department here and how much it’s booming, I think it’s a great choice for that company to come here,” said Julia Lee.

A spokesperson for Honeywell told Channel 11 the company is in the building stages and does not have a timetable for when the center will open.

In the near future, Honeywell will be looking to hire software and other engineers — as well as robotics designers.
