ST. CLOUD — Tech High School’s math team won the state championship Tuesday, according to a release from the school district.

The team competed in the Class AA State High School Mathematics League championship and had a “considerable margin to make up” after the first few events, coach Ben Thell said in a press the release.

The team’s seniors helped save the win. Tech beat Sartell High School by three points, and it took the entire team to have a great season, according to Thell.

“Our seniors . . . took the last individual event [and] really came through for us scoring 19 points,” Thell said in the release. “But the entire team came together to answer (five) out of the (six) questions correctly, scoring 20 points.”

According to post on the school district’s website, the team includes Thell, assistant coach Mick Boatz, and Monty Truitt, Colin Cai, Harrison Gauerke, Maddie Preppernau, Vinh Nguyen, Richard Zimring, John Byun, Trinh Tran and Alex Barker.
