At this week’s TechLaunch event, two emerging technology companies walked away as winners from the presenting B2B and consumer-geared pitches, splitting the rolling event’s honors.
BullPen No. 16, held at Fairleigh Dickinson University and supported by the Morris Tech Meetup, saw assistive listening solution Audio Directions receive the Investor Award while BuckleBath captured the crowd, garnering the Audience Award.
Similar to Shark Tank, TechLaunch is a rolling event hosted by various universities across the state which provides a platform for early stage tech startups to pitch their businesses to a mix including investors, fellow entrepreneurs, and members of academia and the businesses community.
As the Investor Award winner, Audio Directions received more than $15,000 in professional services from event sponsors, TechLaunch said, in addition to pre-approval to pitch at early-stage investor group Jumpstart NJ Angel Network, and at New Brunswick-based Tech Council Ventures. The concept provides organizations a tool for visitors and customers with hearing loss to hear more clearly in spaces where traditional hearing aids magnify background noise.
Jumpstart NJ Angel Network and Tech Council Ventures served as sponsors for BullPen No. 16, in addition to Gibbons PC, Withum, Gearhart Law and Casabona Ventures, from TechLaunch founder Mario Casabona.
The Investor Panel’s judges for the event were SoundBoard Angel Fund Managing Director Jonathan Hakakian, Hogan Advisors Principal and Golden Seeds angel investor Liz Hogan, Jumpstart NJ Angel Network angel investor Harvey Homan, and Henkel Ventures & Henkel Adhesives Technologies Vice President of Technology Charles Paul.
“What we’re seeing emerge at the BullPen is a real and enticing mix of businesses that cross categories and target audiences, accurately reflecting the vibrancy in the startup community,” Casabona said in a prepared statement.
Mobile children’s car seat cleaning service Bucklebath, with what TechLaunch described as an impressive growth trajectory, was audience favorite at the event where the crowd also heard from two more presenters. Boostpoint offers professional home service providers a way to manage Facebook and Instagram advertising to grow their leads and businesses. And, Visionrace, from New Jersey Institute of Technology undergraduate Israel Hervias who occupied the competition’s student slot, pitched its app designed to assist political candidates streamline the direct payment of door-to-door canvassers.
