Technical Tidbits 8/5: Fans Meet the Georgia Tech Football Team – From The Rumble Seat

08/06/2019 by admin

Fan Day is always a great time to meet members of the team and the coaching staff. This year was no different, as fans caught a lively practice and got to get onto the field for some pictures and autographs. The open practice was a neat part of the experience because it will be the only chance fans get to see the Jackets before they play Clemson in Death Valley on August 29. If you went and got your picture with Geoff Collins, I hope you got in line early.

After Fan Day, the team took the short trip over to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to watch a soccer match. Atlanta United has taken over the city by storm, being very good from the start. The games are extremely well attended and fans have a lot of fun. From the tweets sent out by different players and coaches, it was clear both were true at the game the Jackets went to. This is a great way for the team to bond, and for me to learn why Geoff Collins’ name is spelled the way it is.

Although Tech basketball will still get Jordan Usher for the second half of the season, it would be nice if he could play for the first. Usher’s reasons for transferring away from USC were not strong enough for a waiver to be granted under the new NCAA guidelines, according to the AJC. It would’ve helped the Jackets immensely if he would’ve been able to get a waiver, as the lead up to ACC play includes games against teams like Kentucky, Georgia, and Nebraska, where Pastner & co. will need all of the help they can get.

Hopefully Usher will not be needed for these games, as they look to be easy, win padding games for the Jackets. Bethune-Cookman was alright last year, finishing 14-17, only losing to Miami by 8. Elon had an even rougher season, coming in at 11-21, being blown out by UNC 67-116. If the Jackets have a repeat of Gardner-Webb last year in either of these games, I don’t think the fan base will be too pleased.

I would love to have the Women’s Basketball team’s schedule this year, as they get to go to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. For the Junkanoo Jam in November, the Jackets will play Seton Hall and then either Rutgers or Vanderbilt. At the Coqui Classic, the Jackets will play two teams from Texas, Texas A&M and Rice. Good luck to the Jackets and have fun on the islands!

I’m finally eligible to play ball!! @GeorgiaTechFB
ITS GO TIME!!!!!!!
Shoutout to my teachers, teammates and coaches for all the love and support

— James Graham (@Grahm_4) August 2, 2019

After having a little academic scare, Tech quarterback James Graham is now fully eligible to play. This shows Graham’s perseverance and dedication to recovering after his tough situation this past year. Keep up the good work James!

Question of the Day: What do you think about Usher not applying for a waiver?
