The first time that you visit the web site, you will have to type in your Instagram handle and password. You are limited to using your own Instagram account only. And after your report is generated, there are a couple of sliders on the top left that filter the image by vibrancy and significance. Other buttons on the top right allow you to emphasize saturated colors or brighter colors. You can also organize the image so that certain months go to the center with other months on the outside. Tap on the playthrough button and you’ll see a slideshow of the year as it progressed. As app founder Stef Lewandowski notes, “It’s not just the colors that come through, it’s the memories of what those colors mean.”
Eventually, Year of Colours users will be able to order prints to hang on your wall. And for $3 a month, you can also have your latest monthly image automatically emailed to you.
