Earlier this month, an unexplained error caused the last Far Cry 5 DLC to be released early. Dead Living Zombies became unexpectedly available to download on the Xbox One for a brief window, before access was closed. However, the leak did also cause the date of the DLC’s official release to become known. As such, Ubisoft has now released their customary DLC trailer for the official release. In a surprise twist, the new trailer actually teases the return of Blood Dragons to the Far Cry universe.
The New Dead Living Zombies DLC Trailer
Ubisoft has typically released each DLC teaser trailer a week before the release date; and simultaneously revealed the release date in one fell swoop. In this case, the trailer was released slightly earlier, no doubt due to the recent leak. The third DLC for Far Cry 5 is due to be released on the 28th of August.
The trailer makes the setting very clear, very quickly. Dead Living Zombies casts the players as stars in movies directed by Guy Marvel, the Far Cry universe’s B-movie director. The Far Cry 3 DLC Blood Dragon was supposedly based on one of Guy Marvel’s movies. In fact, the director makes an appearance in Far Cry 5 with a film crew, filming “Blood Dragon 3”. While Hours of Darkness and Lost on Mars both took place in one large open area, Dead Living Zombies is a bit different; the DLC spans seven different scenarios, each one based on Guy Marvel’s ideas. According to Ubisoft, the maps for each of the scenarios were actually created in the game’s Arcade Editor.
The Return of the Blood Dragons
In a surprise twist, however, the trailer offers fans a brief glimpse at one enemy that isn’t undead; a Blood Dragon. Given that Guy Marvel is the director of the Blood Dragon movies, it makes sense for one to appear, but due to the focus on zombies it wasn’t wholly expected. This will be the first time that Blood Dragons have featured in a Far Cry title since their DLC namesake was released for Far Cry 3.
Dead Living Zombies is the final of the three announced DLC expansions for Far Cry 5, completing the game’s season pass. It is presently unknown what Ubisoft has planned next for the series. A recent leak from the voice actor who portrayed Joseph Seed suggested that the character might be returning to the game, but it was unclear in what format; it could be that Ubisoft has more as-yet-unannounced DLC to come.
