‘The internet in Ireland is about to crash’ — Additional Garth Brooks date set for September 11, 2022

The mood on Twitter was jubilant on Thursday morning as Irish people got together to give out about being in the virtual queue for Garth Brooks tickets.

A third date was added at short notice this morning for Sunday September 11, 2022, as official availability for the Friday and Saturday dates has begun to wane, according to Ticketmaster’s website.

With thousands more still queueing online, the Croke Park events look sure to be sellouts.

IMMEDIATE REACTIONS

From 8.01 we saw floods of screenshots showing queue numbers in their hundreds of thousands as what seemed like the entire country scrambled for golden tickets.

Stefanie Preissner joined the queue ‘just to see’, reporting that she was 73,583 in the Ticketmaster queue.

Precious few reported success, but those who did were quick to share their win.

As it became clear the tickets would sell out, talk quickly turned to whether we might be looking at extra dates.

THE ONGOING FALLOUT

While most were grudgingly happy for those who got their hands on tickets, some questioned the credentials of whether ‘real fans’ were in the queue at all, with many citing the situation as “absolute chaos”.

With jokes comparing the availability of tickets to PCR tests, the craic was only mighty.

The third date ought to ease demand for a hot ticket – but will inevitably drive further call for more dates. In the meantime Ticketmaster are calling for patience.

Indeed, patience has been a virtue for some, keeping the faith on their smartphone browsers while going about their day.

While it’s been good fun, an event of this size is bound to carry a lot of significance for longtime fans and fairweather friends alike.

…while those of us still queueing are now staring a Saturday sellout in the face.

PERSPECTIVES ON GARTH-MANIA

In a related footnote, those of us scratching our heads at the whole phenomenon might keep this Twitter user’s advice in mind…

…not that he isn’t drawing an eclectic clientele all the same.
