Top most used passwords in 2021

NordPass has published a list of the 200 most popular passwords. This is an annual password list released by the password management company every year to see the worst passwords of the year. Not much has changed from last year, but it’s time for everyone to start focusing on cybersecurity, especially as cyberattacks continue to increase in number this year.

List of worst & most popular passwords of 2021

The most popular password is again “123456”, same as last year. Interesting, “password” is the 5th most popular password on the list and is used by more than 20 million people. For comparison, you can also check out the 200 most popular passwords of 2020 here.

The following are the most common passwords used by people in 2021. In contrast, hackers were able to crack almost all of the top 200 passwords in less than a second. However, some passwords take 3 hours to crack, such as myspace1 (rank 54), 1g2w3e4r (rank 103), gwerty123 (rank 104) and michelle (rank 123).

The reason for using such simple passwords may be to remember them better. In this case, the better way is to use a password manager, which can be more convenient and secure. The list also includes some quirky and funny passwords like:

I know many people set such a password to make it easy to remember, but it is extremely dangerous and beneficial for hackers. Instead, you can use a password manager or two-factor authentication. Protect yourself if you don’t want to be a victim in the future.
