One police officer said he’s never seen “anything” like it – and now Mark and Star King hope they’ll never see it again.
The Kings rented out their Calgary, Alberta, home in Canada using the popular renting service Airbnb. They thought it would be an easy way to help offset the cost of their travel with their two kids, CTV reported.
They were wrong.
The Airbnb renters told the King family that only four people would be staying at the home while they attended a wedding. So on Saturday, they handed over the keys and were off on their trip. But it wasn’t long before they their neighbors called and sent them text messages, explaining that they were concerned about what was going on.
Later, a party bus showed up and an unknown number of people poured into the home. Police received at least three noise complaints in as many days and on Monday they were called to the house to respond to a fight taking place in the front yard.
The family returned home, while some of the apparent partiers were still there , to find their house completely trashed.
“Girls were wasted on my deck, just totally out of it, so I pleaded with them and said ‘would you girls please just pack up your stuff and leave my home? I’m begging you. I have babies that live here. This is my home,’” Star King told CTV.
Canadian law enforcement officer Const. Attila Horvath said the Kings would likely need to hire professional cleaners because of all the “bodily fluids,” including urine, semen and vomit. Horvath estimated the cost to repair all the damage could be anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000.
“It was almost anger. I couldn’t believe that someone could do that in three days to another person’s home.”Horvath said. ”In my nine years of policing, I have never seen anything like it.”
Fortunately, Airbnb offers insurance to renters up to $1 million ”in the rare event of guest damages which are not resolved directly with the guest.”
Police said they are currently exploring the possibility of pursuing charges against the renter.
